Serkan Ozel

​Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Özel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey. He completed his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in Mathematics Education at Boğaziçi University in 2004. He then earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Educational Technology from Texas A&M University in 2009. ​

Dr. Özel's research interests encompass mathematics teaching practices, technology integration, and STEM education. He has contributed to various national and international research projects, focusing on enhancing mathematics education through innovative teaching methods and the effective use of technology. ​

In addition to his research activities, Dr. Özel has held administrative roles at Boğaziçi University. He served as the Vice Department Head in the Department of Primary Education in 2014 and subsequently as the Department Head from 2014 onwards. He also served as a visiting professor in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University, USA, between 2019 and 2021. During this period, he collaborated on projects aimed at empowering students from disadvantaged communities through innovative STEM education approaches and worked with educators to implement social justice practices in classrooms to support ethnically minoritized students in Turkey. ​

Dr. Özel has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to various conferences in the fields of mathematics education and educational technology. His work continues to influence teaching practices and policy development in STEM education both in Turkey and internationally. ​
